Living with HIV/Aids

With new treatments, people living with HIV live longer, healthier lives, but finding a health care practitioner who knows how to treat the disease is essential.

Here are some tips on how to live with HIV/Aids:
  1. Stay healthy
    • Keep your appointments with your health care practitioner and follow their instructions carefully.
    • Get immunisations to prevent infections like flu and pneumonia.
    • Eat healthy foods and use safe drinking water.
    • Exercise regularly.
    • Get enough sleep and rest.
    • Get screen for diseases like TB and Malaria
  2. Seek counseling that gives you information about care and treatment options.
  3. If you’re pregnant, be sure to get information on the prevention of mother-to-child transmission and advice on infant feeding.
  4. Get info on Antiretroviral drugs. These drugs effectively stop the virus being made in the body and this stops the virus from damaging the immune system.
