Exhibition: Candice Breitz

South African-born Candice Breitz will be presenting for the first time on home soil, an exhibition entitled Extra! It is a single-channel video that was created on the set of popular South African soap opera, Generations. In this piece, Breitz paints a picture of the country’s emerging black middle-class against the backdrop of the media industry.

This exhibition will also feature two of Breitz’s other popular works:

1. Factum – This video work explores the journey of identity and discovery. It is centred on the testimonies of seven pairs of identical twins showcasing just how different and how similar they really are.
2. Mother + Father – It features a selection of fictional parental characters from popular cinema. The footage has been carefully worked into a new dialogue that probes parental stereotypes.
